2016 Olympic Team Trials Begin For U.S. Swimming

The U.S. Olympic team trials are under way in Omaha this morning and the action is moving fast. In case you missed some of the action thus far, here's some of what has already gone down, according to USASwimming.org.

11-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte swam the sixth fastest time in the world for this year in the prelims of the 400m IM. Lochte has not competed in this particular event since the 2012 Olympic games in London, but he did qualify in second for the tonight's finals.

Michael Andrew broke the 17-18 national age group record in the prelims of the men's 100m breast. He clocked in at 59.96, and it was his first time finishing in under a minute. Andrew qualified as the fifth seed for the finals tonight.

Olympian Tyler Clary and his sister, Ohio State swimmer Lindsay Clary, both competed in the men's and women's 400m IM, and both qualified in the eighth slot in their respective first flight of heats. Tyler finished at 4.15.41, and Lindsey came in at 4.42.04.

Jay, Kevin and Mick Litherland (triplets) all swam in the prelims this morning. Jay is the third seed for of the 400m IM for tonight's finals. Kevin barely missed qualifying for the finals 400m freestyle after finishing ninth. Mick was 27th in the 400m free. All three siblings competed for the University of Georgia and hold triple citizenship in the U.S., Japan, and New Zealand.

Kevin Cordes recorded the second fastest time in the world this year in the prelim of the men's 100m breaststroke in 59.05. It was also a Trials record and just nine-tenths of a second.
