A woman from Helena, Montana was kidnapped at a local rest stop during the middle of the day. She was able to get in touch with not only police, but her husband. She was found dead about 325 miles away at the Spokane International Airport, according to officials.

47-year-old Rita Maze called her husband on Tuesday and said that she had been hit in the head and was, at that point, in the trunk of a car, Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said Wednesday.

Her husband stayed in cell phone contact with her as much as possible and reported the event to authorities. Law enforcement tracked her cell phone calls and her car's license plate was also tracked by a license plate reader in Post Falls, Idaho.

Maze was eventually found dead in the trunk of her own car around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Spokane officials. Her cause of death has not yet been released.

Local authorities and the FBI are looking into the murder further and have a person of interest.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this emotional time.
