Early Detection Plan
Hearing statistics surrounding cancer is never easy, especially when you have just been told that you are facing the disease. Being able to digest the diagnosis, next steps and survival rate is overwhelming, to say the least. What if we told you that there was a statistic that would actually bring you solace? When breast cancer is detected early (localized stage), the 5-year survival rate is 100%. A powerful percentage. Early detection is essential to becoming part of the 100% and NBCF has created a free app and website where you can create your personalized Early Detection Plan complete with reminders to do breast self-exams, schedule clinical breast exams and mammograms based on your age and health history.

The Gift of Time
Odds are you are connected to someone who has or is currently battling breast cancer and most likely, they need you. You have the power to make them smile, be their cheerleader and an outlet to vent to. Bringing awareness to breast cancer also means bringing awareness to the people behind this disease and that is where you, Womanistas can make a difference. Those undergoing breast cancer treatment often don't know how they're going to feel and sometimes an open-ended invitation - for a meal delivery or a friendly drop-by - is the best kind of help. Your local American Cancer Association office, non-profits such as Susan G. Komen offer local opportunities to volunteer your time at their events and October is an especially needed time for your help.
