2. Sprouted oats

3. Egg whites
While egg whites have long been touted as a great way to get protein, some fitness celebs, like @msjeanettejenkins, are pushing the envelope of what they can do. Jeanette uses liquid egg whites (available at health food stores) to make this delicious fruit smoothie and stay full and energized all day (the ones she uses are pasteurized so they’re safe to eat raw). During my “Stocking Your Paleo Kitchen Like A Boss” lecture at the IHH-UCSF Symposium on the Paleo Approach and Functional Medicine on Saturday, I told everyone that I keep a can of tuna in my purse or backpack as an emergency snack. That way, I always have something to eat if I’m stuck without rations. However, I’ll only eat it if I’m REALLY hungry. ? Nonetheless, I like this brand a lot and it’s available at @goodeggs. In fact, you can check out my Paleo Pantry bundle on Good Eggs by clicking the link in my profile. (Good Eggs only delivers in the SF Bay Area) #nomnompaleo #ucsfpaleo http://nom.gy/NNPGoodEggs
You might not expect a James Beard Award-nominated chef to eat tuna from a can, but there’s a lot about Michelle Tam’s take on paleo that’s unexpected. The mind behind @nomnompaleo admits to doing just that — in fact, she keeps a tin of the good stuff in her purse for a filling emergency snack ration that still sticks to her paleo principles.
Meal prep need a little punch of something new? Take a cue from @followthelita and add some pineapple to a savory quinoa bowl — it’s delicious, and it’s packed with vitamin C and potassium to keep you going no matter what your next workout has in store.
6. Pomegranate seeds
Not only do these little seeds add a bright pop of color to your salads and smoothie bowls, but their low-calorie, fiber-rich makeup is ideal for helping you manage your weight — which is probably why they appear on so many fitness celebs’ instagram accounts, including Australian body-positive beauty @emilyskyefit.
7. Raw cacao
You don’t exactly have to twist our arms to get us to eat chocolate (even in its rawest form), but even if we did need convincing, one word from Beyonce’s trainer is all we’d need. Marco Borges, who trains Queen Bey, suggests boosting your smoothies with raw cacao not just for flavor but for “the added benefit of minerals including potassium, copper, iron and magnesium” as he explained on his Instagram account @22daysnutrition.
