Eat meals, not snacks.
Gellar doesn't seem to have much of a sweet tooth, but there are a few foods she has a weakness for, and sushi is chief among them. "I'm not a big junk food eater. I love food. I'd much rather eat a meal than eat a snack," she explained to Body and Soul Australia. But she might be onto something when it comes to her mindset as what counts as a treat. "To me, all good food is a treat," she admits.
Believe it or not, the way you think about food affects the way you consume it; taking time to be present and enjoy a meal, even a go-to recipe you repeat every week, can make it feel like just as much of a "treat" as a sugary snack. Next time you're about to reach for dessert, take a moment to think about what you really want and then enjoy it, whether that's a donut or simply a smoothie.

Take your workout outside.
"I'm very fortunate that I live in a climate that's beautiful year round and I try to take advantage of being outside, whether it's hiking or going to the beach and swimming and surfing," Gellar says. While all-outdoor exercise routines may not be accessible for some parts of the world, there's nothing more refreshing than spending some time in nature while you're working out. And if you can get the whole family in on the action, all the better! "If we do yoga on the beach then I'm really happy," she says.

Skip the scale.
According to Gellar, being a slave to the scale isn't just stressful, it's pointless. "We don't even have one in our house," she says. "I've never believed in them, because your weight fluctuates." Not only is a number on a scale not a meaningful metric of fitness, but the stress from obsessing over reaching that "perfect weight" can do more harm than good.

Find a workout that does more.
The best workout routines are the ones that do more than just get you fit, whether that's providing focus and mental energy or helping with a chronic physical issue. One of Gellar's favorite (and longest-running!) workouts is Pilates. "I love Pilates. I grew up with, and I still have, major scoliosis… So Pilates not only is a great exercise, but it does relieve a lot of discomfort," she told Health.
Other workouts, like yoga and Tae Kwon Do, provide benefits on the mental side of things. According to Shape, Gellar has been practicing Tae Kwon Do for years because it improves focus. Another bonus to finding a workout that goes beyond basic fitness? It's easier to stick with it and stay committed.
