Sony is trying to get a jump on the modern day realities of family life and home video viewing, by offering a bold new service called the "Clean Version" initiative. In an announcement to press (via Yahoo Movies), Sony detailed the service, which will "allows viewers to screen the broadcast or airline versions of select Sony films, free from certain mature content."
Clearly, the goal of the service is to offer Sony home video content to a much wider audience, by eliminating the mature elements that force parents to wait until kids are out of the room, or even prevent them from letting their children watch content that's too explicit or mature.
The "clean versions" will all be included as "extras" along with the theatrical versions of movies released on digital streaming platforms like iTunes or FandangoNOW.
