Professional MMA fighter Chael Sonnen's daughter Blauna Dian Sonnen has tragically passed away just four days after she was born.

The infant was born ten weeks premature after her mother, Brittany, contracted listeria. The infant was also infected and spent her first days battling the illness, MMA Fighting reported.

Unfortunately, the baby girl succumbed to complications from the bacteria, BJPenn.com reports.

The athlete and his wife have hired a law firm in the hopes of determining how the mother came in contact with listeria during her pregnancy. They are working with the CDC and the FDA to get answers.

The MMA community has reached out with thought and prayers of support for the devastated parents and their young son Thero.

The next generation.
