Actor Dylan O'Brien will officially return to Teen Wolf for the sixth season of the show. The 24-year-old actor will play a prominent role when the show returns this fall, despite suffering serious injuries while filming the next installment to the Maze Runner series, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Jeff Davis, the Teen Wolf showrunner, has confirmed that O'Brien's character, Stiles, will be more critical to the story than ever before. Davis told EW, "Stiles is a big part of the season because a lot of this season's mystery revolves around him." He continued, "We're going to see just what Stiles' friendship means to Scott, Lydia, and Malia. We're going to see why exactly he's Scott's best friend, what it means that he's Malia's human anchor, and what his will-they-or-won't-they relationship is with Lydia."
In the exclusive first look at the first episode of season 6 (pictured above), the image displays O'Brien wearing a brace on his hand. This injury, however, was written into the script for Teen Wolf, and was not from his injuries sustained on Maze Runner: The Death Cure as filming for season 6 was done before O'Brien left to work on the third Maze Runner movie. "That is a Dylan O'Brien injury that was written into the show," Davis stated regarding the photo. "You'll see what happens with that in the first episode."
Davis has also revealed that the plan for the script all along was to have Stiles be the center of the season 6 mystery. According to EW, despite the fact that the set photo was taken before O'Brien's accident, the plan for the role of Stiles did not change after he sustained the injuries. Davis commented: "When we were going into discussing this season, knowing that Dylan O'Brien had a big movie he was going off to do, we wanted to make sure that Stiles was going to be a very important part of Teen Wolf 6A. So a lot of this story is about Stiles."
Lucky for fans of the MTV series, we will be seeing a lot more of Dylan O'Brien in the upcoming sixth season. Also, who knows...maybe one day he'll receive an Emmy nomination for the role like some of these actors!
Teen Wolf is set to return on MTV this fall.
