After being defeated by Garbiñe Muguruza in London's 2017 Wimbledon finals on Saturday, Venus Williams sent a heartwarming message to her younger sister, Serena.

The 37-year-old champion, who was bidding to become the eldest woman in the Open era to win a Grand Slam title, took to Wimbledon's official Twitter account to record a message for Serena, who did not compete in this year's tournament because she is expecting her first child.

"I miss you," Williams told her 35-year-old sister as she grew emotional. "I tried my best to do the same things you do, but I think there will be other opportunities. I do."

While Serena could not attend the game to support her older sister, their mother, Oracene Price was in the crowds cheering Williams on.

Williams made headlines last month when she was involved in a fatal car crash that took the life of 78-year-old Florida man, Jerome Barson. In a press conference last week, Williams said the whole situation left her "completely speechless."

It was reported this month that authorities confirmed that the tennis star had "lawfully" entered the intersection at the time of the accident, contrary to previous reports alleging she was at fault.
