Apparently X-Men: Days of Future Past's Michael Fassbender has been poring over the comic book source material looking for the next step in his character's evolution. Has he found it? Maybe...but he's not saying what.

In an interview at IGN, the actor suggested that there's a particular story or aspect of the character he'd like to play with in an upcoming film, and that he's discussed it with writer/producer Simon Kinberg.

"Well, I can't really tell you," Fassbender said, adding that he hoped to at least be in the movie. "I've had these conversations with Simon and there's a certain strand of his story that I think is pretty interesting and would like to explore, if we could."

Of course, even if he can't do it in X-Men: Apocalypse, it's pretty certain we'll see them exploring Magneto in some depth sooner or later; the long-rumored X-Men Origins: Magneto may be retitled to reflect the newly-more-successful franchise but it never seems to fade completely off of the studio's radar.

All that said, whatever it is he's doing, Fassbender says he's ready to sink his teeth into the next X-Men script.

"I haven't got a script or anything yet, but I'm always excited to see where Simon Kinberg's going to go with the next X-Men," he said. "X-Men's been great to me and allowed me to do so much. I had a good chat with Simon when we were on our way to Moscow, and we tossed around some ideas on the plane over there. So I'm pretty excited to see how it all comes together."

X-Men: Apocalypse is expected to start filming in early 2015 for a May 27, 2016 release date.
