Buried in the same Deadline report that revealed a that Sony is working on a female-led superhero movie for their Amazing Spider-Man universe is the news that the Venom spinoff film is still in the works, and may be titled Venom Carnage.

The report suggests that Venom Carnage will be in released in 2017, the same year as the female-led Amazing Spider-Man spinoff. Alex Kurtzman and Ed Sololmon are working on the script, with Kurtzman attached to direct.

For those unfamiliar with what the film's proposed title might be hinting at, Carnage is the name of another Spider-Man villain, one that Venom and Spider-Man have actually teamed up to fight against. Carnage is a spawn of the Venom symbiote that, once seperated from its progenitor, latches on to and bonds with the deranged serial killer Cletus Kasady.

Carnage is one of the most dangerous and violent of Spider-Man's foes. He was the focus of a 14-part crossover event titled "Maximum Carnage," which even received it's on videogame adaptation. Carnage is also often considered the archnemesis of Venom, whenever Venom plays at being an antihero, making him a suitable choice for an antagonist in the Venom film.
