Daredevil Series For Marvel and Netflix May Have Lost Its Showrunner

Following on the heels of yesterday's surprising news that Ant-Man director Edgar Wright had left the project due to creative differences with Marvel Studios, Latino Review reports today that Drew Goddard will depart as showrunner for Marvel's Netflix Original Series Daredevil. Goddard, best known for work like Cloverfield and Cabin in the Woods, was supposed to write and direct the first episode of Daredevil, while also serving as series showrunner and Executive Producer for the 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Daredevil is the tip of Marvel's streaming-TV spear, the first of five series set to debut on Netflix, all telling an interconnected story. Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones will build to The Defenders in the same way Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger built to Marvel's The Avengers. The shows will also exist in the same shared universe as Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the movies. Daredevil isn't the only Marvel project for Goddard, although it is the only one with Marvel Studios at the moment. He's attached to write and direct The Sinister Six for Sony, spinning out of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and 3. That movie is also part of an ambitious roll-out plan, with Sony hoping to make a new Spider-Man-themed film every year starting in 2015. Sinister Six and Venom are confirmed, along with at least two more Amazing Spider-Man movies and rumors for characters like Black Cat to get their own movies. Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are involved with the launch, as well as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure scribe Ed Solomon.
