Guillermo del Toro's The Strain: First Look Photos

has gotten ahold of the first set photos for FX's upcoming vampire outbreak drama, The Strain, inlcuding a shot of Corey Stroll, hot off of his roll in House of Cards. Judging by the photos and information available so far, the series looks like its trying to put a realistic and believable spin on the idea of a vampiric outbreak. The Strain is based on a trilogy of novels by the same name, written by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Lost's Carlton Cuse is writing and producing the series, slated for a 13-episode first season.

"The Strain" is a high concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The Strain will premiere on FX in July 2014.
