Bill and Ted 3 Script Being Rewritten, Says Reeves

Actor Keanu Reeves, appearing at the Television Critics Association yesterday, told the assembled reporters that the first draft of Bill & Ted 3 that he liked so much back in March of 2012, has been rewritten a bit, and that he, Alex Winter and director Dean Parisot are eagerly awaiting the newest draft. "There've been a couple of drafts now," Reeves is quoted as saying at Deadline. "And we're waiting on the writers to come up with another draft, which we're all looking forward to." Since the earlier draft has Reeves's stamp of approval, one has to guess that the rewrites came from either the director--revealed to be Galaxy Quest and Red 2 helmer Dean Parisot--or perhaps with Winter or the studio.

Alex Winter has been trading on his Bill & Ted notoriety and the film's cult status recently, screening his new Napster documentary Downloaded along with special theatrical showings of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Downloaded is drawing largely positive reviews on its own. "One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world," Reeves said of the film's plot last August. "And they haven't done it. So everybody is kind of like: 'Where is the song?' The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock. And we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future 'us' refuses to tell us, and another future 'us' blames us for their lives because we didn't write the song, so they're living this terrible life. In one version we're in jail; in another we're at some kind of highway motel and they hate us." The film may also feature The Grim Reaper, as Iron Man 3's William Sadler suggested last year he could reprise his role from Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey for the third film. "I know they're trying to write The Grim Reaper in," Sadler said. "Alex said, 'How could we do this without the Reaper?'. I'm hopeful. I'd love to go back and play with those guys again. That was one of the most fun roles I've done. I'll be there in a heartbeat, if they want to do it." Diane Franklin, the iconic '80s babe who played Princess Joanna in the first film, has also said she'd like to appear in the next film. "It would be fun if they brought back the original babes," Franklin told ComicBook.com at New York Comic Con last year. "From what I know. the guys wanted us to be brought back into the sequel in the first place, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, but I don't know if the director-producer wanted that. I always thought that they just wanted to keep the guys free and easy."
