Despite having poo-pooed the idea not long ago, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings today tantalized fans of the beloved-but-cancelled (and then resurrected) sitcom Arrested Development with the prospect of a fifth season produced by the streaming media company. Hastings appeared on CNBC yesterday to talk about reasponse to season four, which debuted on Sunday, and he said that the company was open to the idea of another season. Saying that the response to the new episodes was "huge, just as we had hoped," Hastings put the onus on the creators, saying, "if the talent were willing to do more [episodes], and interested in that, I'm sure we would be willing." In the past, Hastings has referred to the show's resurrection as "a fantastic one-off" but that the company probably wouldn't be able to do more than that. Series creator Mitchell Hurwitz built this season as something that would lead up to a feature film adaptation of the beloved series, leaving a lot of dangling plot threads at the end of season four.
