Nicolas Cage Won't Play Any More Comic Characters, Except Maybe Dr. Strange

Following two almost universally-reviled Ghost Rider films and recent comments that he believed he was done with that franchise for good, Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage says he's probably finished with superhero films in general--although he does so with a bit of a caveat. "I'm open to anything. I just, y'know, want to try something else, try something new," Cage told Hey U Guys. "Doctor Strange is interesting, but I don't know. Right now I'm in a phase where I'm more interested in going back to my roots and doing independently spirited dramatic films. That's sort of what I'm in process with right now. I don't really see another comic book film anytime soon." Of course, it wasn't that long ago that Roman Coppola revealed he had shopped around a version of Doctor Strange years ago that he would direct and in which Cage, his cousin, would star. Recently, Coppola revealed he'd still be open to trying his hand at the film, although whether he still envisions it the same way is unclear. Besides the two Ghost Rider films and Kick-Ass, Cage was cast in a version of Superman which would have starred Cameron Diaz as Lois Lane and Chris Rock as Jimmy Olsen. The film ultimately never happened at all, after director Tim Burton stepped out before production began.
