Yesterday, Netflix released the dark and brooding first teaser for the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Death Note. The popular anime looks be getting a Hollywood style twist, and fans are split on the new adaptation. Today, the director behind the new Netflix original, Adam Wingard, tweeted a new image from the movie that gives us a first look at L and Light facing off.

The new still shows L in his classic pose, squatting on his feet. Across from L is Light Turner illuminated by menacing blue neon. We get to see both characters in outfits that seem to match those depicted in the original anime.

If you are unfamiliar with the Death Note series, don't worry, because Viz Media has a Synopsis to catch you up below:

"Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects—and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But will Light succeed in his noble goal, or will the Death Note turn him into the very thing he fights against?"

Yesterday, Netflix not only released the first teaser but also the official description of the film along with the August 25 release date. This description can be seen below:

Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

The new Death Note film will be available to stream on Netflix beginning August 25, 2017.
