Hit comedy Will & Grace is officially returning to NBC. The formal announcement for the revival show came on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

All four stars of the series – Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullaly, and Sean Hayes – have signed on for 10-episodes set to air during the 2017-18 broadcast season.

David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, the original series creators, also signed agreements with Universal Television for the revivial show.

NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said: "We're thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest and most defining comedies in NBC history is coming back. This groundbreaking series for everything from gay rights to social and political commentary — all disguised as a high-speed train of witty pop culture — is coming back where it belongs."

Jennifer Salke, the president of NBC Entertainment said: "We started talking with Mutchnick and Kohan about producing new episodes right after they shot the secret reunion show back in September, and the fact that all four of the original stars were excited about getting back into production is a testament to the joyful experience they had doing nearly 200 episodes for eight seasons. Few things cut through the clutter these days, especially in comedy, and Will and Grace is one of the best."

During its run on TV, Will & Grace ran for eight seasons and scored 16 Emmy wins from 83 nominations.

The show revolves around Will and Grace, who live together in an apartment in New York. He is a gay lawyer, and she is a straight interior designer. Also in the cast are Jack, Will's flamboyant gay friend, and Karen, Grace's secretary/assistant.

Eric McCormack, the actor who portrays Will, spoke out about the revival show after the main four cast members did a mini-reunion for an Election-themed video.

"As for the future, everyone — from Max and David on down — is so protective of the show and how we ended it," he said. "We're very proud of the series finale and the story that told of the break that friendships sometimes take. So to play with that and change that story and change our own stories in life, I'm sure we would all be open to talking about it."
