Anna Kendrick had a very busy 2016, but she's primed for an even busier 2017, including a possible new role as Santa Claus.

The popular actress is currently in discussions with Disney to star in a new untitled Santa Claus film (via Variety). The film is being written by Marc Lawrence, who many will know from his work on Miss Congeniality and the sequel. Larence has already completed the script and is slated to direct the movie as well, with Susanne Todd producing and Louie Provost overseeing on Disney's behalf.

The pitch for the film, working title "Nicole", is that Kendrick would play Santa's daughter. She finds herself having to take over the family business when her father retires and her brother, who is supposed to inherit the role of Santa, gets cold feet.

It's got potential and could be in line with the tone of something like Tim Allen's popular Santa Claus films, which have always done well. Kendrick is inherently likable as well, so the pairing makes sense. Kendrick already has Table 19 slated for release later this year and is set to work on Pitch Perfect 3 as well.

Pitch Perfect 2 exceeded expectations, bringing in $287.5 million which equals out to more than double of what the original brought in and ten times the sequel's budget, so a third entry was sort of a no-brainer. Kendrick also recently released her best-selling book "Scrappy Little Nobody".

As for Lawrence, this will be his first directing gig since 2014's The Rewrite (which he also wrote).

Pitch Perfect 3 does not have a release date.
