Disney's The Santa Clause Recut as a Psychological Thriller

For many of us, this is the time of year when we rewatch our favorite Christmas-themed movies. For me, I always make sure to rewatch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964), A Christmas Story (1983), Die Hard (1988), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989), Elf (2003), Love Actually (2003), and The Santa Clause (1994).

As for the latter, you'll look at the charming and heart-filled story very differently after you view this new fan-made trailer. YouTuber Aceinyourface has recut The Santa Clause as a creepy psychological thriller. By removing the magical (reindeer, North Pole, Elf Swat Team) and humorous elements, Scott Calvin's transformation into Santa Claus — rapidly gaining an enormous amount of weight and quickly sprouting a full white beard — is due to the divorced-father having a mental breakdown. Since his son, Charlie, didn't witness any magical transformation, it now appears as though Scott brainwashed his son into believing he's Santa and kidnapped him instead of whisking the boy off to the North Pole.

The Santa Clause (1994) was directed by John Pasquin, written by Leo Benvenuti, Steve Rudnick, and Karey Kirkpatrick, and starred Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, David Krumholtz, and Peter Boyle. With a $22 million production budget, the Christmas comedy film grossed $189.8 million at the worldwide box office. Its success spawned two sequels: The Santa Clause 2 (2002) and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006).
