The Purge franchise, which was created by James DeMonaco, can't be killed and is only getting stronger!

The Purge: Election Year has now earned $115.3M at the worldwide box office, making it the highest grossing film in the dystopian horror film series. The first installment, The Purge, was released in 2013 and earned $89.3M, and its 2014 sequel, The Purge: Anarchy, scooped up $111.9M.

As you can see, each film in the series has outperformed its predecessor. Furthermore, Election Year is the "only non-universe film to exceed the B.O. of its predecessor at the domestic and worldwide box office this year." Wow. Congrats!

Overall, The Purge franchise has earned $316.6 million. That's huge when you realize all three films cost a grand total of $23M to produce.

"Box office success is always shocking, especially being a small film in the big summer tentpole marketplace," DeMonaco told Deadline. "What is really nice about the success of The Purge films is that its allowed us the freedom to dig deeper into this dystopian society and explore themes, all of which are pretty damn relevant in our society today."

It's been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

Once again returning to collaborate with franchise creator James DeMonaco on The Purge: Election Year are the series' producers: Blumhouse Productions' Jason Blum (Insidious and Ouija series, The Visit), Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ouija series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and writer/director DeMonaco's longtime production partner, Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers).

The cast features Frank Grillo, Elizabeth Mitchell, Edwin Hodge, Betty Gabriel, JJ Soria, and Mykelti Williamson. The film was written and directed by James DeMonaco.

The Purge: Election Year is avaible on Digital HD and is coming out on Blu-ray and DVD on October 4.
