For the fourth installment in the highly anticipated series the Beverly Hills Cop, Paramount has tapped Belgian directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct Beverly Hills Cop 4. The film that was at one time scheduled to be released this year, finally landed the directing duo to helm the project with the screenplay being penned by writers Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are best known for their drama Black, released in November of 2015. Deadline reports that when Eddie Murphy and Jerry Bruckheimer met with the duo concerning the project, "they were charmed to discover how important the original Beverly Hills Cop was to them." Eddie Murphy and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have worked persistently to obtain the rights to the script and get the project up and running.

It has been 22 years since 1994's Beverly Hills Cops 3, and Murphy and Bruckheimer believe that with El Arbi and Fallah's direction the next installment is "an opportunity to reframe a venerable franchise with youthful energy."

El Arbi and Fallah both attended the Luca School of Arts in Brussels, and both are of Moroccan heritage. Their film Black received critical acclaim after winning the Discovery Award at the Toronto Film Festival last year.

The overarching storyline of the film will be Eddie Murphy's character, Axel Foley, returning back to his original Detroit roots.

The goal is for the film to begin production towards the end of this year or in early 2017.

Eddie Murphy can next be seen onscreen in Bruce Beresford film, Mr. Church, alongside co-star Britt Robertson.
