The forthcoming reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise will reportedly bring Jason Voorhees's father Elias to the screen for the first time.

The character has been referenced, either obliquely or directly, in a couple of previous movies and has appeared in a comic book tie-in, per Friday fan and entertainment writer Devin Faraci, who got the story for Birth Movies Death, but it seems its' finally time for a deeper dive at Jason's family history, which includes an actual appearance by his decades-absent father.

"You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward," producer Brad Fuller told The Reel Word, describing the upcoming take as "Origin-ish, but it's an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela's there, but it's a little bit different from what you've seen before."

Little is known about Elias, altough a novelization of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives includes a bit of information which originally appeared in the script but never made it to the screen. There, it's implied but not outright stated that he's aware of Jason's true nature, and that he's a quiet but intimidating man whom others go out of their way to avoid when possible. He left his family -- the explanation for that was never given onscreen -- and had at least one other child, as Jason had a half-sister introduced in Jason Goes to Hell.

Of course, in the original film, it was Jason's mother Pamela who was the central antagonist. Jason's rise as the franchise's central villain came after Pamela met her demise. Pamela appeared briefly in Freddy vs. Jason before being rebooted along with everything else in 2009's Friday the 13th.
