When the first photos of Oscar Isaac as the ancient and powerful mutant, Apocalypse, were released, fans weren't super pleased with his appearance, pointing out a resemblance to Paul Freeman's Ivan Ooze from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers:The Movie. Well, they weren't the only ones unhappy with the reveal.

"I was not super pleased with those first photos that ran," Isaac told Entertainment Weekly. "When you look at those things, you think that's the representation of the character, and it was a shot from when we were coming out of a portal, and the portal light is purple and so suddenly everyone thinks that the character is purple which is not the case."

Some fans thought Apocalypse should have been computer-generated, but director Bryan Singer only briefly considered going that route.

"Instead of giving him CG make up, I thought it was very important that he connect with the horsemen, that he connect with the movie," Singer said. "We built a suit and enhanced Oscar's size. But nonetheless to be as intimate and persuasive in his interaction with our lead characters, I made the decision to have him for the most part be in human form."

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

The cast features James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Lucas Till as Havok, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Josh Helman as William Stryker, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Ben Hardy as Angel.

The film is directed by Bryan Singer, based on a story by Singer, Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. The script was penned by Kinberg.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will land in theaters on May 27, 2016.
