Future Trunks Returning for Dragon Ball Super Arc

The next of Dragon Ball Super promises to be a huge one, with the return of a fan-favorite character: the adult Trunks from the future! When Future Trunks first appeared in Dragon Ball Z, he was an instant fan-favorite. From an alternate timeline where the Androids, 17 and 18, took over the world, Trunks and Gohan are the Earth's last hope after all the other Z Fighters were killed. Gohan trained Trunks in his Saiyan abilities, as well as swordsmanship.

That means Trunks shows up, from the future, to help the Z Fighters with a mysterious past, a sword, and, oh yeah, the first thing he does when he arrives is blinks easily into Super Saiyan and cuts Frieza in half. Yeah, he was awesome.

Now, he'll be back in Super, with a new look - the blue hair of a Super Saiyan Blue, instead of his purple hair, and a slightly different jacket - but he still has his sword, of course. In an announcement from Akira Toriyama, he teases what we'll see from Trunks, and his surprising villain he needs help defeating.

"Next time in Dragon Ball Super adult Trunks will make his first appearance in a long time. I put together this story based on a suggestion from the editorial office. Like last time I write the outline of the entire plot, then the script writers do their best to break it up into episodes, expanding on things, changing things around, or adding in new beats as need be.

Despite being so strong, Trunks barely escape from the future with his life.

The future was supposed to be at peace, so what in the world could have happened?

And what about this foe too strong for even Trunks to handle, Black Goku!?

It's the start of a battle that surpasses time and space, and drag in the god of destruction, Kaioshin, even the Omni-King. Many mysteries will be revealed!

There's some confusing bits with time changing here and there, but just bear with me. It should definitely turn out to be a fun story. Even I haven't checked the final script yet; let's enjoy this together!"

Yes, that's Future Trunks, and a dark Goku as the enemy, making Trunks' future possibly worse than it was under the reign of the Androids.
