Russell Crowe is in talks to join the cast of the Tom Cruise led reboot of The Mummy. According to reports, the Man of Steel actor and Gladiator star will play a "Dr. Jekyll" type role.

The Mummy is the next film in the Universal Monsters shared cinematic universe, following Dracula Untold. The decision to make Untold part of a larger cinematic landscape was made at the eleventh hour of the film's production, so The Mummy will be the first film in the series to be fully conceptualized as part of this new universe.

Johnny Depp has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Invisible Man reboot, the first of several classic character reboots in the works. Rumors suggest that some of these characters could make cameo appearances in The Mummy.

Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are developing the reboot, with Kurtzman signed on to direct.

Crowe will next appear in the action comedy The Nice Guys alongside Ryan Gosling.

Check out when The Mummy and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com's Movie Release Schedule.
