2012's Dredd, starring Karl Urban as Mega-City One's top enforcer, was praised by critics and audiences alike but performed poorly at the worldwide box office. Against all odds, fans still held out hope that a sequel would come to fruition. A little over a year ago, Dredd screenwriter Alex Garland put a nail in that coffin. He told fans that purchasing DVDs wouldn't persuade studio heads to green-light a sequel. It didn't.

More recently, fans have changed course and now are petitioning for a Dredd television series. One talented fan even did a mock of what Dredd would like on the popular streaming service, Netflix. The image made its way to Urban, and he retweeted it and responded with an enticing message.

"Dredd 2: I'd do it!! Netflix or Amazon," Urban tweeted. "There's a gold mine of Awesome Mega city 1 stories!"

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture – a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.
