Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will see another take on Alfred Pennyworth, one that's been seen with increased frequency in modern media. In Batman: Earth One, the Alfred of that graphic novel was more hands-on. In Gotham, he teaches Bruce his first lessons in how to fight. In Batman: Bad Blood, an animated Alfred takes on two of Batman's enemies on his own.

That's the Alfred of the modern world, one who is "hands-on" and uses his training as a former member of the British Secret Intelligence Service.

"He's a man who can actually do anything if he has to," Irons told Empire in a new magazine.

He also told them that Wayne Manor is burnt out, confirming earlier reports that the new Bat Cave is not under the Manor, but a "sleek lakeside residence."

Irons said that Alfred's "only remit in life is to protect [Bruce]. And, as those of us who have raised children, let alone Batmen, will know, that is quite a wide remit."

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016.
