Today in probably ridiculous Change.org petitions: a fan has written a petition asking Disney XD and Marvel to create additional episodes of the 1994-1998 Spider-Man: The Animated Series. The fan says, "Over 20 years later, this show is still popular and is considered by many fans to be the best Spider-Man cartoon series ever made."

He also notes that the series ended on a cliffhanger, and lists the producer and entire cast as people he'd like to see back. His additional episodes should feature "Dr. Otto Octavius/Dr. Octopus, Eddie Brock/Venom, Jason Macendale/Hobgoblin, Norman Osborn/Green Goblin I, Quentin Beck/Mysterio, the Fantastic Four, Matt Murdock/Daredevil, the X-Men," and characters the show didn't get to like, "Flint Marko/Sandman, Max Dillon/Electro, Dr. Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk."

So, why is this ridiculous? Well, the show has been off the air, as he noted, for almost 20 years. People born when this show started can legally drink in the United States. The petition was started 3 months ago and has, at press time, 464 signees. Disney XD currently has an animated series featuring the character, Ultimate Spider-Man, which has been popular and exists inside the same animated universe as their other series like Avengers Assemble. And as noted in the petition, Spider-Man never throws a punch in the entire five seasons, so there's that.

Regardless, there is some hope for die-hard fans of the classic series. John Semper, the aforementioned producer of the series, gathered several members of the cast together for a 20th anniversary panel at Comikaze last year. There, they announced War of the Rocketmen, a new animated series bringing together cast and crew from Spider-Man: The Animated Series for a new show inspired by classic serials and stories like The Rocketeer. Unfortunately, as of right now, that series seems to have stalled out. It was originally going to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the pilot in "early 2015" as the website still says, or then over "this summer," as the pinned post on the show's facebook page, from July 2015, reads.
