The Minions continue their worldwide dominance.

The Universal/Illumination film has become the third animated movie in history to reach the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, joining the ranks of Frozen and Toy Story 3. It's the third highest grossing animated film, not accounting for inflation. Speaking of threes, Minions is also the third Universal Studios film in 2015 to break $1 billion worldwide, accompanied by Furious 7 and Jurassic World.

The next biggest animated film of 2015 is Pixar's Inside Out, which received more acclaim from critics than this billion dollar baby, but is coming up almost $300 million short of the billion dollar mark with (a still hefty) $701 million box office payload.
