Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura Form A Team (and It Doesn't End Well)

WWE SmackDown started off on Tuesday night with WWE Champion Jinder Mahal's assistants, the Singh Brothers, apologizing profusely in the middle of the ring for their failures last week.

The Singhs begged Jinder for forgiveness due to their failure to protect him from Shinsuke Nakamura last week on SmackDown. They went so far as to lay down at the feet of Jinder, at which point Nakamura's theme song came on. As the King of Strong Style faced off with the champion in the ring, they were soon joined by Rusev and Randy Orton joining in on all the fuss, giving us our main event for this week's show.

Nakamura and Orton were a bit of a strange team, especially given the fact that it was announced that the pair will be facing off next week for a chance to become number one contender to the WWE Championship.

The Singhs played a crucial role in the main event, helping attack Mahal and Rusev's opponents while the referee was distracted. In the end, Nakamura and Orton were able to coexist long enough to get the victory, though. After Orton took out Rusev with a boot, Nakamura followed it up with a knee from the second rope and the Kinshasa for the pinfall.

As the two men celebrated in the ring to close the show, we very quickly got an RKO out of nowhere from Orton on Nakamura. Orton was very good during that sequence, eyeing up Nakamura as he celebrated with a serious and somewhat annoyed look on his face. Finally he gave Nakamura a pat on the back for the victory and a hint of a smile just before nailing him with the RKO.

Next week's bout between these two that will determine the new number one contender should be an interesting watch. Both men have already went toe to toe with Mahal for the title, Orton doing so on several occasions now. It's hard to imagine WWE would go back to an Orton/Mahal match yet again, so the odds-on favorite would seem to be Nakamura eventually facing Mahal in a rematch from SummerSlam.
