Truth be told, the new advertisement from GFW actually features footage that is a couple of years old. The company is getting ready to air some of their previously taped AMPED shows on pay per view starting in August. When the shows were filmed back in 2015, Roode was appearing for them as part of an agreement with TNA Impact Wrestling.
The first episode of AMPED will air on August 11 as part of an anthology of all of the unaired footage from 2015's tapings. GFW released a video hyping the first episode with Roode as the focal point. The title asks "What Is Bobby Roode Doing In Las Vegas For GFW AMPED?" Obviously the more informed wrestling fans will know this is a ploy to garner interest, but the company is obviously hoping some will actually think Roode has jumped ship.
The real reason the announcers in the video above sound shocked Roode is appearing at the show is because Roode was a TNA star at the time and GFW was a separate entity.
For those unaware, Impact Wrestling (formerly TNA) and Global Force Wrestling officially merged this year. Impact has now rebranded themselves and taken on the GFW name, while still calling their weekly show on PopTV Impact.
Bobby Roode made his debut with WWE NXT in June of last year after a lengthy run with Impact Wrestling. While he had wrestled with WWE early in his career as part of their developmental system (2001-2004), he achieved notoriety while wrestling with Impact for more than a decade.
So what is Bobby Roode actually doing over the next few weeks? NXT has a big tour of Minnesota and Wisconsin coming up this weekend. Following that, he'll be preparing to defend his NXT championship against Drew McIntyre at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 3.
