The Dark Knight Composer Rocks Out At Coachella

When you think of Coachella, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Most people would probably say the hordes of Instagram and Snapchat-savvy young adults that head out west each April to take in concerts by music icons and up and coming artists alike. For instance, the headliners this year included Radiohead, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar.

But now, thanks to movie composer Hans Zimmer (The Lion King), we might be seeing more orchestra entries in the coming years. Backed by an amazing light show, Zimmer conducted an orchestra through 13 minutes of his most popular work from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.

While many people were originally taken aback when Zimmer was originally announced as a performer, the Oscar-winning German native quietly shushed the doubters with his high-octane performance.

Throughout the set, not only does Zimmer conduct the orchestra, he moves about the stage playing several different instruments even shredding a gnarly guitar riff at one point. The composer even hopped behind the mic to lead the crowd in a chant of one of his more memorable pieces from The Dark Knight Rises.

Zimmer won an Oscar for Best Original Score for his work with The Lion King in 1994. His most recently work includes Pirates of the Caribbean, Inception, and Interstellar. Along with his Oscar win, he's also walked away with four Grammys and a pair of Golden Globe awards. The composer even went on record earlier this year that he might not be done with scoring superhero flicks.
