In the opening bout to WWE Backlash, the six-pack women's challenge to determine the first SmackDown! Women's Champion took place with Becky Lynch coming out on top to become champion!
After Alexa Bliss was eliminated, the numbers quickly dwindled and finally left Carmella and Becky to be crowned as the first Women's Champion of the SmackDown! brand. Becky had yet to hold any championships in NXT or WWE and it was obvious it was her time to shine. After making the Princess of Staten Island tap out, Lynch gave an emotional speech celebrating her victory.

Although winning the championship puts a giant bullseye on Becky's back, the Irish Lass Kicker has had this coming for a while and the person who rises to the number one contender better be prepared for one hell of a fight.
