When Aquaman makes his standalone debut in the DC Films universe, he will be brought us to us from the visionary director James Wan.

Wan has previously helmed acclaimed horror films, such as The Conjuring (with a sequel spawning later this year) and Saw, and most recently made an impact on the Fast & Furious franchise with its enormous seventh installment.

Wan is currently wrapping up his efforts on The Conjuring 2, which Wan is very excited to share, saying, "I believe in the story, I believe in the world, I believe in the characters," and adding that he is very much looking forward to expanding that world. However, after the sequel, he'll have to dive into the massive production of a super hero film which is slated for 2018.

"It's still early process," Wan says of Aquaman. "It's very important for me that I can put my stamp on it. If I can do that, I feel it will be pretty damn awesome."

Aquaman will star Game of Thrones alumni Jason Momoa as the titular hero, having made his onscreen debut as the character earlier this year in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The plot of the film is still unknown.

Aquaman is set for release July 27, 2018.
