After the Game of Thrones season seven finale on Sunday, fans were left with several unanswered questions and a whole lot of anticipation, but it looks like they'll have to wait quite a while for the series' next and final installment.

Rumors are circulating that Season 8 won't premiere until 2019, due to the show's production schedule, according to an unconfirmed report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Filming is set to begin on the show's final season in October, and now that winter is here, the cast will need to travel to weather-friendly locations for maximum snow. The report suggests that production may run as late as August 2018, which could push the six-episode season into 2019.

As Season 8 will likely feature plenty of dragon action, that means the show will need heavy special effects, which will extend production time even further.

"Our production people are trying to figure out a timeline for the shoot and how much time the special effects take," HBO programming president Casey Bloys explained. "The shooting is complicated enough — on different continents, with all the technical aspects — and the special effects are a whole other production period that we're trying to figure out. That is a big factor in all of this."

Naturally, fans weren't too happy to hear about the potential wait, with many using Twitter to share their thoughts.
