'American Crime Story: Katrina' Being Revamped, Sarah Paulson to Star

It's been revealed that the tumultuous third season of American Crime Story will be undergoing a revamp and that American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson will take on the lead role.

According to EW, while the season will still be based on the aftermath events of Hurricane Katrina, they plot and story will now come from the book Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink.

Five Days at Memorial is described as chronicling a "New Orleans hospital under siege from the storm and without power for days."

Sarah Paulson will be starring as Dr. Anna Pou, a real-life physician at the hospital who was accused later of giving lethal drugs to some of the patients in order to "expedite their deaths during the disaster."

Previously, the season's scheduled director was quoted as saying that it had "stalled."

"That just kind of got stalled. We're all standing by waiting to find out what's happening," Anthony Hemingway told journalists

"We're all standing by waiting to find out what's happening," Hemingway added.

When pressed for if the season will happen at all, Hemingway said, "Who knows? It's all up to Ryan Murphy."

Season one of American Crime Story focused on the famous trial of O.J. Simpson who was charged with murder. That season was met with wide critical acclaim and on multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards.

Season two is titled American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, and is described as "exploring the murder of designer Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, based on Maureen Orth's book Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History."

"I just think that was [what was] at play. It was the bird-in-hand syndrome. [Versace] needed a lot of attention, so I think he just made the decision to do that. Instead of do what was intended, which was doing them parallel at the same time, he chose to do them one at a time," Hemingway later added.

Finally, Hemingway was asked about whether this will affect his involvement in the series, to which he replied, "It's all on timing," he said. "If the timing works out, great. If not, you got to sometimes unfortunately miss out on things. There's so much greatness going on — you want to do it all, but you can't."

At this time there is no word on whether not Anthony Hemingway will remain involved with the project.
