ABC Exec Reveals If They're Worried About Roseanne Barr's Tweets

ABC entertainment President Channing Dungey isn't planning on losing any sleep over Roseanne Barr's Twitter feed. With the Roseanne reboot in the works, Dungey is trying to avoid focusing on the 64-year-old actress' social media posts in which she frequently expresses her political views.

"I try to just worry about the things that I can control," Dungey said at the TCA summer press tour on Sunday.

On Twitter, Barr isn't shy about revealing her stance on political issues, similar to how she does on her beloved sitcom. However, several weeks ago, Barr announced that she was going to allow her son to take over her Twitter feed, according to the LA Times.

"We did not ask her to do that, but she did make that decision," Dungey said. "What we've heard from Roseanne is she is very excited about the show and wants to be very focused on the show."

For example, during the Kathy Griffin scandal when she posed for a photoshoot with a beheaded model of President Donald Trump, Barr weighed in with a controversial opinion.

She tweeted: "Kathy Griffin misdirects everyone away from #SethRich."

For those who don't know, Seth Rich is the 27-year-old Democratic National Committee employee who was fatally shot in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington D.C. last year. The circumstances surrounding his death led some to believe that there was foul play involved in his murder.

Barr, who tried to win the Green Party nomination to run for President, also doesn't mince words when she talks about political parties she disagrees with.

Dungey also dropped some exciting news this past weekend about how the Roseanne revival is going to handle the death of John Goodman's character, Dan Conner.

Fans will likely remember in the original series that Dan passed away in the finale. However, many were perplexed when seeing that Goodman, 65, is confirmed to appear on the reboot.

According to Dungey, the showrunners are bringing Dan back in more than just flashback scenes or as a ghost of sorts.

"I wouldn't say that it is ignoring the events of the finale, but I can confirm that Dan is definitely still alive," she said.

As for the plot of the revival, Dungey says that it will have a familiar feel to it.

"We feel very confident that it returns to the show that we really know and love," Dungey said. "It's very much tonally similar to the original show. It's unflinching, it is honest, it is irreverent at times and very, very funny."

Back in June, Goodman gave fans a taste of what they can expect from the reboot.

"It's going to be all new turf. We were in our 40s when we left off," Goodman said. "I myself have applied for Medicare. We're going to have grandkids. It's just like a new life. I don't know what they're going to do, but I'm excited to try it this way."

While Barr, Goodman, and several other stars are confirmed for the reboot, there is one integral character whose involvement is still in question. Learn who here.
