Six years after her release from an Italian prison, Amanda Knox is living a "normal-person" life.

Knox became embroiled in international scandal 10 years ago, when she and then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were accused of the 2007 murder of Knox's 21-year-old British roommate, Meredith Kercher. The two were convicted of homicide, and Knox spent four years in prison overseas before she and Sollecito were exonerated in 2015.

In a new interview with People, Knox, now 30, shared that while she's enjoying life under the radar, that doesn't mean the world won't hear from her.

"I'm not disappearing into oblivion," she said. "I have something to say."

Since her release from prison, Knox has written a memoir, finished college and written an arts column for the West Seattle Herald, and is now working as an activist to prevent wrongful convictions from happening to others.

"Now I have normal-person fears — fears of failure, of not being smart enough or strong enough or kind enough," Knox said.

She's also found love, with author Christopher Robinson, whom she met in 2015 at a book party. The pair live together in Seattle, and while they're talking about tying the knot, Knox wants to wait until her younger sister, Deanna, has her own bridal moment.

"My little sister is getting married this November, and I'm having a blast coming up with awesome ways to make her feel special about that really important decision in her life," Knox explained.

Knox shared that she's excited to eventually start a family of her own.

"I look forward to that part of my life that I had always taken for granted growing up and then had to let go of in prison, and then [I] suddenly find myself with that as an actual opportunity again," she said. "I can only be insanely grateful for that."

"I'm not free from scrutiny," she added. "But now I feel like I can stand up for what I think."
