A Canadian family is deeply horrified and disturbed after finding a urinary catheter in their tub of ice cream.

CBC News reports that a Quebec family was celebrating the birth of their baby boy with a tub of Coaticook's pecan ice cream found at the local grocery store, when they discovered a strange object.

Family member, Carole-Anne Christofferson revealed that their grandfather was eating the ice cream, when he bit down and discovered the object was not at all a pecan, but rather an intravenous catheter used to remove fluid from a patient.

"He put it in his mouth and found the tip of the syringe," Christofferson said.

Three other family members also ate from the tub, but Christofferson said grandpa is "the worst off" because it was in his mouth, adding, "He's not even able to speak about it."

While it is not clear if the catheter had ever been used, the family said they noticed something dark on the tip of the medical device and are unsure if it was caramel or blood.

For safe keeping, the family and everyone who ate from the tub will be tested for HIV, as well as Hepatitis A, B and C. Health officials in Quebec told the family they will need to have blood tests for the next six months.

It is unsure if it is an isolated case or if the company will need to issue a recall.

Coaticook owner Jean Provencher, told the Montreal Gazette he is just as "baffled" by the incident and reviewed surveillance video, but reports footage did not show anything suspicious as the ice cream was being produced. Provencher has contacted the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to further investigate .
