Chiwetel Ejiofor is reportedly in talks to play Scar in the upcoming CGi/live-action remake of The Lion King.

There is no solid confirmation that the Doctor Strange star will voice the villain in the CGI/live-action production, but insiders say the talks are happening, according to The Wrap.

Ejiofor would succeed Jeremy Irons, who voiced Scar in the 1994 original, and renown voice actor Jim Cummings, who voiced Scar in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride.

The English actor is best known for his acclaimed portrayal of Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave and for playing Baron Mordo in the 2016 Marvel film Doctor Strange.

He's also appeared in films such as Love Actually, Serenity, The Martian, Salt and American Gangster. He's also an acclaimed stage actor.

If cast, Ejiofor will join the Donald Glover (Simba), James Earl Jones, (Mufasa) Billy Eichner (Timon), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa) and John Oliver (Zazu) in the production.

Scar's casting was rumored to be announced at the D23 Expo last month, but no such reveal was made. Hugh Jackman was rumored to be cast in the role, but those reports were debunked.

The remake of The Lion King will be in theaters on July 19, 2019.
