Margot Robbie has established herself as a Hollywood darling in recent years, thanks to her performances in films such as The Wolf of Wall Street and Suicide Squad. And now, the actress will soon get a chance to play actual royalty.

Variety is reporting that the actress is in negotiations to star as Queen Elizabeth in the upcoming film Mary Queen of Scots. While the film has reportedly not been greenlit, Robbie's commitment to the project is sure to change that in the near future.

The historical drama will follow the life of Mary Stuart, whose futile attempt to overthrow Queen Elizabeth led to a lengthy imprisonment. Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn, The Lovely Bones) is set to costar as the film's title character.

Mary Queen of Scots will be distributed by Focus Features, and will be produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Fargo, Shaun of the Dead), Debra Hayward (Love Actually), and Jane Robertson (Bridget Jones's Baby).

The film will be directed by Josie Rourke, whose past credits include an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing starring Doctor Who alums Catherine Tate and David Tennant.

Aside from Mary Queen of Scots, Robbie's recent projects include playing A.A. Milne's wife in Goodbye Christopher Robin, as well as playing figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya.

She also is helping develop Gotham City Sirens, which is set to be her next portrayal as Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe.
