Go-Go Gadget: Pasta Maker

go go gadget header

Take a trip to Italy by going no further than the comfort of your own kitchen!

Pasta is a staple for many fast and easy recipes that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people; its simple flavor can be integrated in dishes with complex flavors and decadent sides for the advanced palate, or hold a simple sauce for the young and picky eaters. Making homemade pasta with a pasta maker will produce dishes that exude a sense of authenticity and freshness, and make the hard work you put into creating the pasta more satisfying.

With a pasta maker, you can make enough noodles to last for several dinners plus packed lunches for work (hint: great resource for leftover night!). Its easy-to-use functionality makes this machine less intimidating and a great way to encourage your kids to help out with cooking dinner. For example, have them crank the knob until the pasta comes out through the slots while you prepare the other sides.

Finding the perfect pasta maker depends on a list of factors: How much you are willing to spend, how much space you have available for a new appliance, what kind of dishes you're hoping to create, and maybe even a preference on the type of material used (i.e., stainless steel, chrome, etc.). Most basic pasta machines are only capable of making spaghetti and fettuccine, but others are more advanced and are able to produce lasagna and tagliolini. Similarly, some machines require manual labor (i.e., cranking a handle), and others are electrically operated.

The top-selling pasta maker brands on Amazon are Atlas and KitchenAid.
