prevnextTeen Mom Charged With Assault After Punching Her Infant Child
A Pennsylvania teenage mom allegedly punched her baby after getting "very frustrated" with the child for crying "nonstop."
Law enforcement officials claim Natalia Cordova, 18, struck her 7-month-old son so hard that he was left with a fractured skull. The Children and Youth Department first started the investigation before the police got involved.
Cordova has been charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Morning Call.
On July 3, the baby was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital to receive medical attention. The hospital staff noticed that the infant's injuries were consistent with child abuse.
In two previous discussions with the Children and Youth Department, Cordova denied hitting her son. However, she finally admitted to the Bethlehem police that she did, in fact, punch him.
She said her anger took over as her baby had been crying "nonstop" for two hours.
"I know that I hit [the baby] out of anger," she said. "I also know that I am extremely sorry for my actions."
After hitting her son, Cordova says that she then "blacked out" and doesn't remember anything.
Cordova told the law enforcement officials that she needed help with her anger management.
