Emma Myles, who portrays meth head Leanne Taylor on Netflix's Orange Is The New Black, says that people constantly telling her how ugly she is on the series often gets to her. Although she looks almost unrecognizable in real life compared to her character on the beloved prison dramedy, Myles still says the negative commentary takes its toll.
“People tend to recognize me, but their favorite thing is to tell me how ugly I am on the show. Then they’ll say, ‘But you’re not in real life,’ ” Myles said while talking with Page Six. “I’m like, ‘Listen, the damage is done, OK? I’m just trying to get my gum from Duane Reade’ . . . When people call you ugly every day for an extended period of time, you start to become very sensitive. Maybe overly sensitive.”
Just by taking a scroll through Myles' Instagram page, it's clear to see that she looks nothing like her character
During an interview with Buzzfeed, the 30-year-old actress revealed that she believes her character's backstory is one of the saddest in the series. She portrays a meth head who was originally Amish.
"It would've been a lot less sad had she gone on her Rumspringa and gotten arrested and then ended up in prison. But she makes the active choice to commit to her religion and she still ends up in Litchfield...I get emotional thinking about it. When we were shooting me in my bedroom, and then when I kind of look in on my parents as I'm about to leave, I could not stop crying," she said.
