Via an e-mail to Kickstarter backers, actor and filmmakers Zach Braff has released the first trailer for his upcoming film Wish I Was Here, which was filmed partially at San Diego Comic Con International 2013. "I have something very special to share with you today," Braff wrote in an e-mail to backers. "Each one of you, with every pledge you made and every note of encouragement you wrote to me, has played a part in making this movie happen. Since YOU are the reason I made this film, I knew that YOU had to get the very first look at it before anyone else. So here it is, the very first teaser trailer for Wish I Was Here." The film, which takes place partially at Comic-Con, will star The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons and Kick-Ass 2's Donald Faison alongside Braff, who plays a middle-aged man who uses fantasy stories as a doorway to homeschooling his son. Braff, best known for nine seasons on the NBC/ABC sitcom Scrubs(on which he starred with Faison), has described it as a sequel in spirit to his 2004 directorial debut Garden State, in which he starred alongside Star Wars and Thor: The Dark World star Natalie Portman. Following the success of Veronica Mars, Braff's Kickstarter drew significant criticism as some claimed that established celebrities shouldn't use crowdfunding to enlist fans to pay for their passion projects. Wish I Was Here  is expected in U.S. theaters on July 18 -- ironically, the week of Comic-Con. Whether he will be at the show, or screen the film there, is unknown at this point.
