Terry Crews, who starred in Everybody Hates Chris and The Expendables and will appear in the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man Halloween Special as Blade the Vampire Hunter, wants to play the ever-lovin', blue-eyed Thing in a Fantastic Four movie one day, saying that he'd rather portray a character who has a chance to find its way to the big screen than get caught up in development hell wishing for a specific role. The actor told Newsarama that he'd jump at the chance to play the rocky-faced hero, but that it's really more up to the filmmakers and the fans to find a role for him in the superhero genre than it is for him to make one appear out of thin air. "Some people bring up Luke Cage, but honestly I have to step out of that because Marvel's never really expressed an interest in making it. If Marvel hasn't expressed interest in it, why should I?" Crews said. "I'm interested in actually doing a character that'll see the light of day; that's one of the reasons I chose to do Blade here. I don't want to be a part of something that's going to sit on the shelf and never get made. "One character I always thought I could play is the Thing from Fantastic Four. Another character I've always loved as a fan is Colossus. If there was a way to make that happen that worked, I would love to be Colossus. "You can't make yourself President; the people make you the President. If people want me to be a part of this superhero genre, it'll happen. People get what they want. I feel like we need to make new superheroes, African-American superheroes, that people would accept. Whatever I do, it has to be right – for me, for the character, and for the fans." It wasn't long ago that rumors began to circulate that Fantastic Four director Josh Trank wanted Michael B. Jordan--a person of color--to play Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, and the Internet exploded. Our own comment threads were not particularly pleasant, and from what we could see they were pretty representative of fan response as a whole, which basically said (in its very nicest and most repeatable version) not to tinker with decades-old characters for the vision of one director. Some suggested that The Thing was the easiest character to race-swap without offending the fans, but noted that to do so would seem like an empty gesture since the character's whole premise revolves around the fact that he doesn't look like himself. The X-Men franchise, where Colossus resides, is still falling back on the cast of the original trilogy of films for many characters, meaning that Colossus will appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past, played by Daniel Cudmore.
