Just because Jim Carrey doesn't feel comfortable promoting Kick-Ass 2 anymore doesn't mean Universal Pictures won't continue to use his likeness throughout the promotional campaign for the film. And that's just what they're doing so far, releasing a new Kick-Ass 2 theatrical poster this morning, just hours after Carrey began publicly distancing himself from the film due to its gratuitous violence towards and by "hildren. "I did [Kick-Ass 2] a month before Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence," the star said via Twitter yesterday. "My apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart." While Carrey's character exited fairly quickly in the comics, he's been a key part of Universal's campaign for the film, which they're hoping will do enough at the box office to justify a third and final installment in the trilogy.
