Dredd 3D Comic Book Sequel

With a comic book sequel already in the works and a base of fans who have mobilized an impressive social media presence in support of a follow-up, it's perhaps no susprise that Rebellion, the studio behind last year's Dredd 3D, are considering their options for keeping the franchise alive in spite of an underwhelming performance at the box office. Bleeding Cool reports, "According to a rep from Rebellion, addressing the assembled store holders and comic hawks, plans for a Dredd movie sequel aren't entirely dead. I think the exact words were that it 'could still be happening' but I'll try to clarify that as soon as I can." Not being there, we're not particularly qualified to judge the seriousness with which the claim was made, although Bleeding Cool notes that the comments came at the Retailers Conference at the MCM London Comic Con, meaning that it could have simply been Rebellion and 2000 AD using the films to leverage more interest in the 2000AD Megazine.

Back in March, produce Adi Shankar told Reddit users during an Ask Me Anything interview that a sequel was unlikely, given the film's performance, but that the studio was working on putting together a short film in the same vein as Shankar's critically-acclaimed Punisher short Dirty Laundry. His comments varied from "probably not" happening to "not happening" to teasing the possibility of the studio exploring crowdfunding through Kickstarter or something similar. In April, a teaser image appeared for a sequel comic book, set in the world of the film rather than in the usual Judge Dredd continuity. Bleeding Cool also debuted a page from the comic today, taken at the retailer conference, which you can see at left.
