The Stephen King/Walking Dead connection launched when The Shawshank Redemption and The Mist director Frank Darabont brought the series to TV has just deepened. Glen Mazzara, the writer/producer who took over from Darabont as showrunner on the hit AMC series after the creator was forced out of his chair two years ago (and who was in turn forced out of his own role at the end of the show's third season), has reportedly signed on to write a prequel to Stephen King's horror classic The Shining for Warner Bros., who distributed the Stanley Kubrick-directed adaptation of the original back in 1980. The prequel, titled The Overlook Hotel, will be produced by Mythology Entertainment's Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt and Laeta Kalogridis, Deadline reports. King himself is working on a sequel, titled Doctor Sleep and due in September. A special, signed edition of The Shining will be released the following month.
